I'm certainly not a fan of building theories, but something I would like to share: Ecolin is smart and knowledgeable in some aspects he has, in the first chapters we were shown that he put a protective spell on his refuge, to hide his presence (if not a fucking charger), and he tried to find out what kind of spell on him put Eric and how to get rid of it, can read runes, could get (maybe stolen) rare artifacts and hid from the Alliance 8 years.
